Sustainability and respect for the environment have always been guiding principles of the olive grove and oil mill at Son Mesquidassa. We use machinery and latest-generation irrigation and energy installations<\/strong> with high performance that guarantee the smooth running of the mill and also a significant reduction in consumption levels. The farm also has a small field of solar panels<\/strong> that feeds clean energy into our facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Son Mesquidassa oil mill has been fitted with a system that recovers all the stones from the processed olives. This product is used as biofuel<\/strong> for sale, but also for our own consumption, as it allows us to generate heat and cold in our facilities and save more than 90 tonnes of fossil fuels every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The olive residues are used as an ecological herbicide<\/strong> during the first year. They are then used as a compost-type organic fertiliser<\/strong> in order to give back to the land what it has lent us. In this way, and with very thorough control of the plantation, we avoid applying large quantities of chemical products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The estate is an oasis of wildlife, where a great many animals run and roam among the olive trees and the pine woods. A valued and respected biodiversity<\/strong> that improves the environmental value of the estate and helps to enrich the visitor experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The olive plantation keeps growing and absorbs around 2,700 tonnes of CO2 a year<\/strong>, which contributes considerably to reducing greenhouse gases. As a family fully dedicated to the primary sector, we are experienced observers of the worrying changes the environment is undergoing, and we know that we still have to make greater efforts to fight climate change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our commitment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Son Mesquidassa<\/strong> we are fully aware of the responsibility that comes with being part of the primary sector in the Balearic Islands. Our activity is closely linked to the land, the landscape and the people who make it possible. That is why we work every day to carry out our activity responsibly, strengthening our commitment to sustainability, the environment and the conservation of our agricultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the land and the landscape<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our activity helps to preserve the traditional cultivation of the Mallorcan olive<\/a> and the unique landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana. For years we have been the main buyers and packers of Mallorcan cracked olives (oliva partida) from emblematic estates such as Comassema, B\u00e0litx, Pastoritx, Biniforani, s’Heretat and Miramar. In this way we help to keep alive an agricultural activity that is part of the identity and the history of Mallorca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For biodiversity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Our commitment to the environment translates into specific conservation and sustainable production projects. One example is the cultivation of sea fennel (Crithmum maritimum)<\/a> at the Corbera estate in Llub\u00ed. This initiative avoids harvesting the plant in its natural habitat, favours the conservation of the species and allows us to obtain a higher-quality product through a more controlled and environmentally friendly growing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For efficiency and sustainability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We work continuously to improve the efficiency of our facilities and reduce the environmental impact of our activity. Thanks to the addition of professionals specialising in environmental management and new technologies<\/a>, we are driving measures to cut water, energy and fuel consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are also moving towards a company that is increasingly efficient in its use of resources, reducing the consumption of paper, containers and packaging, gradually incorporating recycled materials and promoting the use of renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this commitment, we calculate our carbon footprint every year and register it officially in the corresponding Ministry register, with the aim of continuously measuring, improving and reducing our environmental impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
